(photo: Dennis Valet)Alton, VA – Finland’s Matias Koykka stood on top of the VIR podium after a closing-stages battle among four cars that saw them running nose-to-tail, three wide, and changing positions lap after lap. The F1600 Formula F Championship Series produced again, with Kyokka’s Spectrum/Honda for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing barely edging out Colin Thompson’s TTO Motorsports Swift DB6/Honda and the Mygale/Honda of Brandon Newey for Bryan Herta Autosport.

Koykka took the pole.Alton, VA – Matias Koykka continued his pace, taking pole by just over a tenth of a second in the No. 10 Spectrum/Honda at VIR for the first F1600 race of the weekend. Koykka shattered the existing track record by some four tenths of a second but the Finnish 17 year old went off on his last lap, damaging the car. Garett Grist was second quick for Bryan Herta Autosport, followed by Colin Thompson.
